The Social Startup Summit

Sponsor:

We would love to get your company or non-profit in the spotlight! Supporting the Social Startup Summit gets your brand in front of our attendees and the people served by the ventures they'll start, and your sponsorship will help pay for venue rental, lunch, and more. If you cater to high school students, if your company offers small business/non-profit organization management tools, or if you're a large corporation who loves supporting young social innovators, dig into your outreach and marketing budget and let's get in touch. How the work we do benefits the community:

Community impact: Each summit will yield ten new community service projects and social ventures. Thousands of dollars will be raised for environmental charities, new school clubs will be started, a new non-profit will be established, and more.

The local school community: parent-teacher organizations, student government classes, school environmental, service, and career clubs, etc.
The local community: local city parks and recreation departments, non-profits, student organizations outside of schools, etc.
The global community: students will be encouraged to fundraise for environmental education schools overseas, parks preservation abroad, etc.

Diversity: There will be volunteers from diverse backgrounds, as we look to partner with NFTE, ODALC, etc.

Youth Empowerment: The Social Startup Summit was started by youth (co-founders are 14 and 17) for youth! Youth volunteers will serve on the event planning committees, and will find other volunteers, find sponsors and grant opportunities, find speakers/moderators/panelists, and more. Volunteers will be running the event, participating in starting the projects, and competing in the pitch competitions. Youth will gain skills in self-esteem (they created their own service project), teamwork (they will have to work in teams of 5 to create the project), connection to community (they will fundraise and volunteer with local non-profits), and initiative (they will be more likely to start their next invention idea).

Reflection Activities: Youth will have a reflection activity before the summit: an online webinar raising awareness about a global action day (World Food Day for a food security summit, World AIDS Day for a global health summit, etc.) to prepare for coming up with ideas to pitch on the day of the summit. During the summit, youth will reflect on issues facing the world today with brief screenings of clips from social justice films. After the summit, youth will reflect with an interactive activity: for the environmental summit, by measuring the amount of paper waste created by the summit and come up with a problem-solving solution to reduce the waste.
